Financially Enabling Roles in Clarity PPM, Made Easy!

If your company’s financial planning process requires Cost Plans, Budgets and financial data related to projects and investments be aggregated, presented and controlled based on designated financial attributes found in Transaction Classes and Resource Classes, and your resource costing is also based on these attributes, your company will likely benefit from financially enabling roles in your Clarity PPM system.

With many IT and NPD projects running relatively long –term, the named resources are generally not known at project inception. Roles are employed where the named resources are not known. However, Clarity’s out-of-the-box Roles do not have financial attributes. The standard work-around of using generic resources is often unsatisfactory, as you lose the rich functionality found when leveraging Roles for resource planning and management.

For these reasons, financially enabling the Roles in your Clarity PPM implementation provides your company with the benefits inherent with the rich functionality available when leveraging Roles for resource planning and management.

SOLUTION
Here’s the best part, it only takes a few short days of expert consulting from Digital Celerity to financially enable roles in Clarity PPM when your company has implemented Clarity PPM Financials. If not, partnering with Digital Celerity to implement Clarity PPM Financials can accelerate your success, while leveraging best practices and best-path consulting services.

RESULTS
Your company can use Roles throughout the planning process, develop projects using Roles costed by any of the financial attributes that you would use with Resources, and create Cost Plans and Budgets based on Transaction Classes or other financial User Defined Values. In addition, Resource Role costing can use Transaction and Resource Classes, as well as Departments and Locations in the Rate Matrix, and successfully cost roles based on those attributes.

All without concern for future upgrades or if CA elects to provide financially enabled Roles in a future Clarity PPM release.

The Agile project management methodology was initially designed and optimized to support smaller scale, “quick hit” software development projects.  Packaged Application implementations and Agile methodology are seldom seen together... and using traditional Agile project management on large, complex software such as Clarity PPM?  Fugeddaboudit!  However, this case study of a company that made the decision to use Agile to support not only a major Clarity PPM Implementation, but other organizational objectives as well, can serve as an illustration of how such projects can take advantage of leading edge methodologies and use their strengths to drive the rapid realization of benefits.

Enabling Earned Value Management (EVM) for your maturing project management organization

Subject Matter Expert: Jon Hoaldridge, Clarity PPM Solutions Architect, Engagement Manager

Click here to sign up for webcast series

Earned Value Management (EVM) is a statistical operation for performance measurement that compares the project's present actuals against what was planned. For example, EVM may compare the length of time a task would take, according to a baseline budget plan, to the actual length of time it took, while capturing the metrics in Clarity PPM for performance measurement in a few key areas:

    * Schedule performance (current schedule vs baseline schedule)
    * Budget performance (current cost versus budgeted cost)

This presentation is offered as a framework for preparation, and best practices, and provides guidance for setting up Clarity PPM in the browser/UI for Earned Value Management and Analysis. Attendees will receive Digital Celerity’s whitepaper, “Enabling Earned Value Management with CA Clarity PPM” they may leverage as a step-by-step process guide for their initiative.
